LionNet is the official Intranet of Nassau Community College that supports the operational needs of the campus community. Access to most of LionNet's content requires that the user be authenticated to the system via a unique User Id.
Access to the underlying menus, procedures, content, etc. may be directed based on the role of users within several broad classifications. This capability allows for the targeting of content, procedures, etc. to a specific groups with the organization. Role classification is determined from official College records and includes: FT Faculty, PT Faculty, Administrator, PT Staff and FT Staff. Individuals may be assigned several roles concurrently. A full-time faculty member who also teaches part-time would have both FT Faculty and PT Faculty roles assigned in their user profile.
Two examples of when role based access could be used is (1) to direct announcements to a particiular group (FT Facuty, PT Faculty, etc.) and (2) to provide access to services that pertain to a specific group such as the adjunct availability procedure.
